Community Awareness Program

The community plays a role in improving the quality of life of students with disabilities and their families. It is about restructuring the cultures, policies and practices in schools so that they respond to the diversity of students in their locality.

Delivery

Meetings and house visits are done as part of community awareness programmes.

• Local government bodies (Panchayats), local school authorities, parent communities, local transport associations like the Auto Union play a key role.
• Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – Karnataka is also involved in the inclusion journey. The local officials meet children and parents and understand the needs of the children and sometimes facilitate processes.
• Everybody contributes in their unique way, which helps children transition to the local government schools where they are able to attend classes with their peers. They are supported by their classmates and teachers.
